Tony Yap Company

“…exquisite…There are real lessons to be learned from the way Yap builds his work. Each element has its place and is given its time, allowing the audience to reflect and absorb the multiplicity of meanings… The feeling was profound, the silence palpable.”

The vision is to create a multi-modal form that transforms ancient shamanistic practice into a post-modern medium. This unique artistic language is intrinsically international and makes us effective at representing an Australian-Asian experience in the contemporary arts.

tyc fosters creative collaborations in the Asian region and champions Asian Arts in an international context. They make unique work that allows evolution and fosters spontaneity within structure; work that is always refreshing and current within its original artistic framework.

Love fall The main aim underlying my proposal is to develop a choreography to induce the sense of a reverse vertigo – a falling backwards, gazing upwards; following the theme of love from last major solo, Rasa Sayang. ‘Falling’ within the realms of love suggest embodied psychophysical and emotional states. The choreographic approach takes my contemporary trance praxis as a foundation to the concept of reverse vertigo, to a second sense of falling, levitation, suspension, ascension and decent. The project will involve a visual artist as designer, Shaun Duggan, musician, Reuben Lewis and long-term dance collaborator, Brendan O’Connor.
